The SANE 2 Day Clinical Skills Training, through the Georgia Forensic Nursing Network (GFNN), is designed to increase the healthcare professional's skill and confidence with performing medical forensic examination of the adult and adolescent sexual assault patient. Participants will have the opportunity to apply the information learned in the 40 hour SANE course through hands on Sexual Assault Examination training with live models in a realistic setting. This course will help to meet the IAFN’s requirement of demonstrating competency through clinical preceptorship experiences. 

The Georgia Forensic Nursing Network is an educational community for forensic nurses and community stakeholders that includes, forensic nurse experts & mentors, community resources, and IAFN approved training.  By partnering with Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and integrating innovative and flexible, trauma-responsive, evidence-based training GFNN is able to bring exceptional forensic nursing education to nurses across Georgia.

Presenter: Trisha Sheridan DNP, WHNP-BC, SANE-A, SANE-P, FAANP Dr. Sheridan has over 15 years of experience in healthcare with over 12 years as a board certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. She is currently board certified as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for Adults, Adolescents and Pediatrics through the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) and has worked in a variety of clinical settings  including collecting evidence, documenting injuries, and providing trauma responsive medical care. Dr. Sheridan is an associate professor at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson School of Nursing where she is the Women’s Health Gender Related Nurse Practitioner Program Director. She is a past Director at Large on the Board of Directors for the IAFN and her work there included coordinating the task force on the National Elder Abuse Curriculum for Nurses, as well as updating the national curriculum for the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training. Prior to her current position, Dr. Sheridan was a Clinical Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University and Forensic Nurse Examiner Program Coordinator at Baylor Scott & Hospital in College Station, TX

Target Audience: Healthcare professionals interested in increasing their skill and confidence with performing medical forensic examination of the adult and adolescent sexual assault patient. This course may be of particular interest to those pursuing SANE certification.

This continuing education activity is being jointly provided by the International Association of Forensic Nurses and Emory Nursing Experience. The International Association of Forensic Nurses is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center Commission on Accreditation.  Attendees to this CNE activity will be awarded 16 contact hours by IAFN.
